Ray Tomlinson, the innovative and talented American programmer who dramatically changed the way we communicate with the invention of the email, has passed away at the age of 71 from an unexpected heart attack.
His legendary invention not only single-handedly changed the way we communicate, but it also revolutionized the way we market. As small business owners, entrepreneurs, and digital marketers, he paved the way for one of the most effective marketing tools of the 21st century. In a recent research report conducted by the Content Marketing Institute, it stated that eighty-three percent of B2B marketers effectively use email newsletters for content marketing. We now have the ability to effectively mass communicate, build relationships, and connect on a personal level as never before.
He envisioned creating a simple, yet effective, email system, but instead created one of the greatest communication systems the world would ever know.
Ray Tomlinson, you will be missed greatly, but your legacy will live on in minuscules of data as they soar across the galaxies and are being welcomed home thousands of miles away, and for that we salute you."
